Any tech people on here?
(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 01:22 am (UTC)(link)My internet internet drops randomly. And the only way to make my computer reconnect is to restart it. I don't think it is the modem because my cell phone and Kindle still have a connection.
but I have no idea what to look at to see what the problem is on my computer. I am on WIFI, Windows 7, and have an ATT router.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 01:38 am (UTC)(link)Obviously, it doesn't make sense why this would be since the connection is coming through the router and you'd think if it didn't work on the computer it wouldn't work on the phone, either, but that's how it was. I guess the issue must be with the way the connection is on the computer itself vs. other devices connected to it, if that makes any sense. Either way, when we switched services it stopped happening, but I guess it's possible the person hooking up the new service changed some settings on the computer around or something.
...sorry, I don't think I'm much help.
Re: Any tech people on here?
(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 01:44 am (UTC)(link)It took a long time to figure out it was the modem, and what tipped me off eventually was that sometimes the individual reboots wouldn't work, but rebooting the modem would. Eventually, it just quit giving out internet altogether.
If you think it's your computer, first thing I'd do is update your wireless network drivers. I'm on WinXP at the moment, so can't give you direct instructions, but look at your hardware devices (maybe right-click My Computer and properties or manage?). Find your wireless network driver, and if you check the properties for it, you should see a version number and a date for the drivers.
Then go to the manufacturer's website, go to Support> Download Drivers (or some similar combination of menu names), find the latest and greatest drivers for your computer. Often, a driver update will fix it. Sometimes you get driver updates through Windows, but best to go straight to the manufacturer if you're having problems.
