I keep seeing these comments about the rabidness of the yaoi fangirls and it strikes me as odd. I'm in the same fandom, I'll ship yaoi, yuri and het. So far I have yet to have someone flame me for writing one or the other, or even sometimes a combination of the two in the same fic.

I guess I've been lucky in that respect. Ship whoever you like. I for one won't come down on someone for liking something other than a yaoi pairing. I ship Hiei/Botan and Hiei/Keiko for cripes sake. If that isn't enough to start controversy from the rabid!yaoi fangirls, I don't know what is

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed! Though I ship mostly yaoi (in fact, my current fandoms, being RPS, are exclusively slash/yaoi), I don't see the problem with het shippers unless they go out of their way to attack me personally or what I ship. Then it's war. ~_^

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
By all means, if they attack you personally then have at it. I hear grenade launchers work wonders in taking out flocks of the flamers *grins*

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
*grins back* I personally just stay away from het-only or especially "lol we'll accept yaoi but you must understand het is how it IS so agree with us" types as much as I can now, and it's done wonders for avoiding wank unless said wank is not ship-related but with rabid Gackt fangirls who are convinced their vampire god can do no wrong.

Re: 43

[identity profile] blueutopiah.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"their vampire god"

*cackles* Oh that one is good.

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
*cackles along with you*

Seriously, if you haven't seen rabid Gackt fangirls in action (or been on their bad side) pray you never are (though if you're a Yoshiki or Miyavi fan, or both, you likely will be at some point unless you ignore available evidence to believe they still like Gackt a lot. . .)

Re: 43

[identity profile] blueutopiah.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I must've missed the boat somewhere because I'm not really a Gackt fan, but I do love old Dir en Grey. Of course, I've never been in the fandoms, but what I've heard doesn't make me want to rush over there.

:D

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
If you want cool fandoms, I'd recommend L'Arc~en~Ciel and the Yoshiki-related fandoms (old X Japan/Violet UK/new X Japan but NOT S.K.I.N. since it's overloaded with the enraged Gackt fen I spoke of. . . who will happily rip anyone questioning Gackt as vocalist a new asshole).

All have really great music, have a ton of funny backstage/off-scene interviews, clips, whatever, as well as angsty and horribly tragic stuff that's happened in their histories and have their fair share of "canon" or "semi-canon" stuff to play with if you lean toward writing or RPS. Also, Tetsu (L'Arc's creator and bandleader) and Yoshiki are both very good at keeping their fans happy by providing consistently good performances and by being generally cool ^_^

Also, the wank and bitchiness that does happen falls along a few defined lines AND usually even if you piss off one side of the line, the other side will defend you (e.g. if you liked Sakura as L'Arc drummer better than Yukihiro, you're not alone, and you're not even alone if you think Yukkie's better than Sakura).

As long as you don't do anything massively stupid/trollish like bashing on hide in X Japan fandom (which, take it from me as one of hide's biggest fans, is a way to make us all so mad at you that even tiptoeing near the fandom isn't a good idea afterward) or announcing you think the band should break up already in L'Arc fandom since 16 years is too long to exist, you should be OK.

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you there. Wank has been exceedingly easy for me to avoid as well really so I'll just count myself lucky. For the most part I've only had to listen to the people calling me a sick fuck for the graphic content of the last fic I started lol Little do they know that their outraged cries only make me want to see just how much more torture I can throw in there, just to piss them off lol

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
ROFL! I've been involved in a ton of wank in my old fandom (Trigun), enough to get my own page on the F_W Wiki, but I think I've learned my lesson (at least until the night before last night and yesterday, though I think snarking at Gackt fans who were bashing visual kei may have been a justified case of wankery ~_^).

I really don't like being caught up in wank, though, and I wish I could undo half of the stuff I said back as a Trigun fan (and had got out of that fandom much earlier. . . for as much as people bash Jrock fandoms in general for being wanky fandoms, it's been much less wanky for me to be in large fandoms where there's a variety of opinions)

Oh, that happened to me too back when I used to write Trigun fic. I wrote this Knives x Vash/Wolfwood=Vash series, and these troll-stalkers picked up on it and have accused me of everything from wanting incest in my own life (dude, WTF) to supporting rape (never mind the entire point of the series was about how being raped by Knives fucked up Vash's mind so badly). Said stalkers have been following me ever since, almost two years now >_<

I'm currently working on an original fic heavily inspired by my Jrock OTP of Yoshiki/Miyavi. I'm worried that people will not get that the reason I'm writing my inspired-by-Yoshiki character as having an asphyxiation kink is based on rumors in the hide/Yoshiki (another OTP) fandom about hide's death, which I believe, NOT on any of my own kinks.

TMI : LOL, for all the fucked-up, kinky stuff I write, I'm totally vanilla aside from being FTM trans and bi. I mean, I don't want incest, I don't want rape, I'm convinced that nothing good lies within kinks that can kill you and leave your lover broken beyond belief for nine years. . .

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately there's just some people out there that can't figure out that fandom does not equal real life. I've written incest, rape/torture, bdsm and bestiality, but I'd slit my own throat before I thought about willing doing anything on that list beyond the bdsm in RL.

My own fic starts out with Yusuke going to Kurama for help in training to be a submissive. Ultimately he's going through this because he wants to be Hiei's sub, but he doesn't want to approach him untrained. Kurama fits the bill perfectly since he's one of the few people Yusuke trusts. Kurama accepts after they set the ground rules and things are fine, Yusuke fits into the lifestyle with a minimum of difficulty.

Things start going wrong when Kurama's demonic instincts take a greater role in the arrangement and Yusuke doesn't recognize the danger signs until it's too late. When he tries to leave, Kurama's grip on reality snaps and decides that he'll be damned if he gives Yusuke up through any method except death.

The story is still ongoing and there's a few people that have already had a fit over it despite the warnings. I'm not surprised though, when you label things for bdsm there's too many people that are expecting fuzzy handcuffs and nothing more. When you label for rape and torture, they're expecting magical, healing buttsex or something. I'm bracing myself for the horrified reactions when they see the upcoming character deaths I have planned lol

We can't win lol

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I had a rant on that earlier in the comments to this secret. My writing style is heavily inspired by visual kei in general, so it's like. . . I write not just to entertain and get people off, sometimes I want to shock or make a statement or explore an issue or whatever. And yet somehow, writing is more readily judged than music or art as a "portrait of the writer's mind."

Personally, I blame 9-11 and the almost global tendency toward conservatizing and fearmongering that's bled over from terrorism and suspicion of it into the "OMG INTERNET DANGER" and "SPOT THE NEXT KILLER" and "If you're weird, you're OMG MENTALLY ILL and NEED TREATMENT" memes. Yes, these memes may have saved some people, I won't begrudge the people who believe according to them. That said, I don't think even that's worth the chilling effect they've brought in everywhere (and now that there's a new law before the US Senate that passed the US House demanding the censorship of some "obscene" fictional content and a possible internet-filtering law being pushed forward in Japan. . .). . .

I'm really, truly not optimistic, since our future IS the internet and since if anything, being able to see you're not the only one who's had your experiences and survived through them, you're not the only one who has an odd mind and is proud of it and using it for your art, would eventually save some people. Just not the right ones, though, for some people. >_<

. . .Sorry, went off on a bit of a rant. If I start talking, there will be no end ~_^

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
No worries, your thoughts are quite similar to my own on the issue, as is your reasons for writing. I dread the day that a law like that manages to pass.

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. Hopefully, it won't pass the Senate, or it will be thrown out by a judge on the first case. . . but yeah, it's very worrisome, especially since I worry that "obscene" might suddenly get applied not just to minors in explicit fiction (which is bad enough: even though I don't write minors at all, it squicks me, it's a step in the wrong direction to blanket-ban it), but to anything other than the American porn industry standard.

Re: 43

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm working on the SEQUEL to that based-on-RPS fic I mentioned. The first one is already done and waiting in the queue for bb_shousetsu, so if you ever want to see, check out the January issue if I don't get bounced.

Re: 43

[identity profile] blueutopiah.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I ship blue/ryu yuri. Does that count?

And we all know that I give you crap for shipping Hiei/Keiko.

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it counts. The classification of yuri might need to be re-evaluated when we put on the Hiei and Karasu costumes however.

*chuckles* So long as you don't give me crap for shipping Hiei/Yukina too. If you did I'd have to spank you. :D

Re: 43

[identity profile] blueutopiah.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
If spanking is involved then all you'll be getting is crap from me. Be ready.

Like we need to start this shit in this comm. We'll get tossed for being ZOMGFANDOMLESBIANS. And we'll also be tossed from the hotel once the cosplay is on.

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Aw shit, I'm in for it now lol Time for me to go find that riding crop.

Are you telling me that possibility would actually stop you? Or me for that matter. Yeah, tossed from the con is a strong possibility. We might need to make reservations at another hotel... Just in case.

Re: 43

[identity profile] blueutopiah.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Like anything would stop me from touching you in public.

You know, I loves me some yaoi, but the only reason I don't read het is because I can get het at home. But the het ships = homophobe thing makes me cock my head with a BUH face.

*snicker* I said cock.

Re: 43

[identity profile] x-ryukotsusei-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought.

You know me, if it's two characters I like it doesn't matter what sex they are. Half the fun is in making the pairing work in a way that's believable and not so OOC that I want to go drown myself

The het = homophobe reasoning isn't something I can wrap my mind around either really. You're not alone.

I guess you're lucky. Or I'm saddled with the stupid fen...
