i think it's ingrained in our culture to accept rape as a common thing, but we definitely can do something about it, it would just take generations of education and cultural reworking and i don't see that happening at an ideal pace. and even then, yeah, rapists would exist. so while we have tons of progress to make, i think technology like this polish is part of that progress. BECAUSE rape will always exist, it's worth it to protect yourself.

I think it's ingrained in our culture that most people think "rape is the most atrocious thing that can happen to a woman" and "rape is a fate worse than death" and I really don't think that it's accepted as a common "whoops, shit happens" thing at all.

do you think it should be? a mentality like that excuses rape in the sense that it puts less stigma on the rapist and more on the "overreacting" victim. looking at rape that way won't minimise it. no matter what you think of rape, it's objectively a bad phenomenon, and reducing it as much as possible should be the goal, not teaching survivors to just suck it up. wtf?

No, but you say that's what it's like and I don't agree. I don't agree that our society takes rape as an unlucky thing that just happens. It's a Bad Thing and most of society agrees on that. We do not live in a society that accepts rape and people don't get taught that rape is a-okay. People do get taught that it's just about the most heinous thing you can do to another person, and it still happens. So teaching people how to protect themselves against it isn't victim blaming, it's an unfortunate necessity.

And I never said anything about survivors who are supposed to be sucking it up, what even.

i'm really sorry, i just realised i misunderstood you. i thought you were trying to say you think an alternative to seeing rape as bad is to teach people to deal with it. i get what you meant now, nvm.
