Most reinterpretations and merchandise are likely based on Judy Garland's portrayal because it is the most popular (by far). Hell I didn't know Dorothy was not a teen until now.

There's this weird thing where normal human beings are able to observe other people's feelings and actions and understand and sympathize with them, even when they can't personally identify with them at all.

It's sort of difficult for sociopaths and narcissists to grasp though, yeah.

I agree like a million times over, but it's not like that's a secret or anything. I don't think it's actually an uncommon opinion these days either - it seems like a lot of people who are either watching it for the first time relatively recently (like me) or revisiting it after not being massive in fandom originally share that view.

It's just a much more interesting, much less common relationship if they're not romantically involved.

I'm not sure how LGBT rights connected to sex scens. But maybe the reason is that it's too realistic, so it's like watching the people you know or so it's too detailed and leaves nothing to imagination. I don't see a cause for worry. Tastes vary and it doesn't impact your intimate life negatively, it seems.

What's with the assumption that if you care about those things then it's the only thing you care about? I see it all the time and it seems like such a strange assumption to make. I'm sure it's true sometimes but I'm equally sure that it's not always true.
