You should read Les Miserables

?

Why? For the musical connection? Or just as general advice?

Why, I'd never be so forward as to suggest a book without being asked to!

The musical connection. =) Musicals tend to be more fun than the source.

The Brick is awesome.

...weapon.

NO no no. Phantom of the Opera. How the HELL anyone managed to polish that shit into a beloved musical is so far beyond me, Hubble can't even photograph it.

Les Miz I can almost see in places. Not Phantom. Not for an instant.

Hahaha, yes. It's such a weird little satire-horror-comedy-mystery-crackfic with bizarre punctuation. I mean, I love it, in a way? But I'm pretty sure if you tried to tell Leroux about the nature of his legacy a hundred years hence, he would look askance at your predictions.

SOMETHING IMPORTANT IS HAPPENING. I SHALL INFORM YOU OF THIS IN ALLCAPS!

It's like a modern 14 year old wrote it.

Phantom Of the Opera was a book? I had no idea!

(I've never seen the musical--I joke with my friends that at this point I'd probably keep comapring it to Maskerade. "This is bullshit! Where's Granny Weatherwax?")

I have a weird love for the glorious brick. I much prefer the musical, but the book isn't bad if you know what parts to skip over. I know you love Paris, Mr. Hugo, but I don't need to read 200 pages on its sewers.

I started reading at the book 2, where poor Cosette's made to work and thought that it was too sad. I might pick it up again because I loved the musical (with Mutu!Javert). Skipping the boring parts as well.
