AYRT (who is British, so we're clear) - but there is more than one version of the magpie rhyme. The one I know starts "one for sorrow, two for joy" and doesn't get to silver and gold until five and six.

No idea what ravens have to do with it though, agreed.

We don't have magpies where I come from, so the rhyme is for crows. Presumably ravens are also the corvid of choice in some places.
