29. The female characters that I dislike in Gundam 00 I dislike because of their personality and the way they act, nothing else. The same fucking thing goes for the male characters I dislike, so stop assuming shit! You wanna know what I'm the most sick of in fandoms? IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

er, not 29's OP, but that... seems a bit vitriolic?

Wing DID have a lot of people bashing Relena for being in the way of 1x2. And I agree, if there is something romantic between Marina and Setsuna, I'd hate to see a rehash of the GW fandom where people bash her for getting in the way of... Setsuna/Graham or Setsuna/Lockon or... ...y'know, he doesn't ship easily, come to think of it >_>

Yeah, I know it was. It's just... I'm damn sick of that certain type of fans who will bash anyone for disliking a female character (even going so far as to call them misogynist), and who will fawn over any female character as long as they are disliked by other fans.

You're right that there was a lot of Relena-bashing going on back in the day, and yes it was usually by 1x2 fans, but so far I haven't seen anyone bash a Gundam 00 character for such reasons. I personally can't imagine Setsuna with anyone (at least not at this stage of the anime), but Marina least of all -- he made it quite clear that he detested her, and I doubt she will ever be able to feel anything towards him besides a twisted sense of guilt. But that's just my opinion, and I couldn't care less if someone out there wants to ship that or Lockon/Haro or whatever the hell else they please. But I damn well want that same courtesy extended to me if I say I dislike so-and-so, and I do not want to be accused of being a misogynist.

And I agree, romance between those two... XD; Yeah, it might be hard. If not impossible.

I like most of the female characters in 00 thus far, with Sumeragi, Felt, and Soma my favorites at the moment. Louise alternately amuses and annoys me, and I want her and Saji to have a damn POINT already :/

Really, 00 isn't the most shippable Gundam series there is. It seems like CB... well, they can be shipped with ANYONE at the moment XD;

Just jumping in to say that a lot of the Relena-hate back then came from the first few BNF's; few people in the fandom had actually seen the anime (it was before it was officially translated, and fansubs were available on video cassette tapes only), and based their characterisation on BNF-fanfic.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I finally got hold of it (though some things I was certain the ficcers had made up turned out to be true. Pink Limo and "Destined to be killed by you" FTW!).

I hear the main fandom is comparably sane concerning Relena nowadays.

I disliked her from day one and didn't even know what Yaoi was until about halfway through that fandom (As it was my first real fandom after Sailor Moon which is generally pretty skimpy on the yaoi. Or at least a small enough amount a squeaky clean Junior high kid could not stumble upon it)

Yeah, but you were kind of meant to hate Relena at first. She was drawn to be a spoilt, semi-delusional little rich girl, who gets her life totally destroyed when it impacts with reality. Then you were meant to watch her pull her head out of her arse and start to climb back up, and recognise that yeah, this took effort and we should respect her for that effort. You'll notice that in the end she didn't really get anything she wanted. She didn't have a home, she didn't have a boyfriend, much less Hiiro, she didn't have safety and she didn't even have the luxury of being able to stop and have a birthday party. What she had was a mission. Quite frankly, if she wasn't burned out by twenty-five, I'd be shocked.

Yeah, but I never liked her. Her personality just rubbed me wrong at ever step, and there was nothing that made me want to cheer for her.

That may not make her a bad character, there are people you don't like, and I wouldn't call her a mary sue or anything, but I REALLY disliked her, to the point that it's hard for me to rewatch the series anymore.

And although now there's the layer of yaoi (or at one point there was, I don't think I even ship 1X2 anymore.) that was never anything but a secondary reason to dislike her. (personally, I rarely hate girls cause they "get in the way" cause I just never let em do in my stuff :D)

Yeah, of course I'm not saying that no one disliked (or dislikes) her for legitimate reasons, so to speak, but the over the top blind hate of pretty much the entire fandom back then was mostly because no one relly knew her character.

I've never understood hating her because she gets in the way of yaoi though, because, er, she really doesn't? I mean, it's not as if she's paired up with anyone, nor do they express romantic feelings for her.

I've never really understood that period. The "Getting in the way" thing...since most this stuff is in fanfics/fanart, there's very few girls who, with a little tweaking couldn't be logically written out without destroying the character...even when i don't like a character, I hate to see them ripped apart. If you control the world, you control who gets in the way...but eh.

Gundam Wing fandom was just pretty batshit all around though. I'm surprised with that as the first fandom I was "in" that I stayed around.

Generally, when i dislike a character, it's because how they act in canon. So writing them IC is enough of an insult from me. XD

I agree on the getting in the way, though. There's no reason to think like that most of the time, and if the only way you can make a paring work is to make a third party look bad, you're just a bad writer.

Since I had my training in the GW fandom, even the Harry Potter fandom coulnd't shock me. Sure, HP maybe more sophisticated in its perversions, but after reading Duo raped by a panther and giving birth to human/panther hybrid cubs, Relena raped by Heero's Gundam, prostitution, weird deaths, the pilots being anthropomorphic personifications, poly in all combinations, and the writer Sephiroth in general, nothing really comes as a surprise anymore.

Nah, I'm really sad right now cause I'm in a fandom with the two guys one girl thing and I LOVE the girl...just don't think she fits with the guy. And hate seeing her ripped up so, cause it's so easy to logically split them up without making anyone look like an asshole.

I have to say. i was interdouced through Gundam Wing, but Harry Potter still...*shudder* Then again GW was like "New shiny! :D" and I think I was more forgiving...or something.

Well, you can like characters without shipping them. ;) I almost never hate, or even dislike, characters, female or otherwise. There are just different levels of interest.

See, I'm the opposite I've always been really picky, I think that saved me from a lot. Nothing can save you from Harry Potter Fandom tho XD

I will admit, there are some I can't stand (hate is a strong word for fictional character, but yeah)
