She left filming due to illness, submitter!

I know! The day after I submitted the secret. Guess she didn't want my patronage.

(Poor woman though, lost her sense of taste and smell, which must be devastating)

I feel really badly for her. As someone who obviously loves cooking it must be so hard for her to deal with that :(

Does she have the stuff that you want? The things that you need?

Is she hated for some reason?

Just google #bincindent, #bingate and BBBO/Big British Bake Off.

Good to see even the British can get up in arms over stupid shit.

It's what we do best!

Some guy made a crap ice-cream cake that was completely liquid, she took it out the freezer (it was already liquid at that time) for a few seconds and some creepy editor made it look like she'd left it out for hours so she got called a slut by all of twitter.

I'm not on her team exactly... but Iain shouldn't have thrown his baked Alaska away. Like... ugh.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
This so much. The judges were completely right in their decision to let him go.

My first thought when he went to throw it in the bin, "No! They won't have anything to taste now, you stupid boy." (Yes, read that last bit in Captain Mainwaring's voice.)

At least he realised he was in the wrong after he calmed down.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah there are always more points for trying. Besides everyones cake was pretty melted.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No, she was just mean. But he could have tried to rescue the situation, I totally understand how he felt though, it would be so upsetting, it was like a school bullying incident, the way she just put it on the table and the way she spoke to him.

2014 has been pretty grim, this has given the British something to vent about!! ( as Adam Hills said, it's not really about the ice cream...)

(Anonymous) 2014-09-01 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
How was she mean? Sue Perkins has gone on record saying Iain's baked alaska was out of the freezer for 40 seconds, not enough to reduce it to liquid. You've fallen for the misleading editing done to make it look controversial.

I think she showed poor sportsmanship, and the length of time is actually pretty irrelevent. She said that she removed it, asked who it belonged to, and then left it on the side. I can think of three things off the top of my head that would have occured to me before taking out somebody's ice cream and leaving it out on the hottest day of the year under filming lights. The length of time was irrelevent, in my mind. Iain's leaving was understandable given his sportsmanship wasn't exactly stellar either, but I would have preferred moving to a double elimination next week (which would become moot given Diana leaving for health reasons) because the potential interference; the melted ice cream, which was at the bare minimum not helped by Diana's actions, would have ruined the sponge and given him nowhere to stick the meringue. I wouldn't have presented it either.

I swear I only gave it this much thought because I wanted to address my kids' questions if they came up, because my oldest is really struggling with perfectionism at the moment. GBBO is serious business in this house.

Posting again to say that I'm not the anon you replied to. Thought I had said that, but obviously not.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-01 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks anon, I am the anon they replied to! I felt it was very mean on second watch it really struck me, to take it out, leave it there, then when he found it her reaction was quite nasty, I think that's why people got so up in arms about it. It was the way she did it, if it had been an accident and she was sorry or even embarrassed, but she clearly wasn't either.

I mean, OK I am also overthinking here, but if it were me I would ask if I could move it over to nearer his table, if I felt strongly I needed it next to mine. Or just put it in a free spot and walk the few feet to get it!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope Norman is next on her hit list, he needs to go already.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I am Team #getaclueanon.

Nancy was the one who CLEARLY took the ice cream out of the freezer. Diana only answered Nancy's question of "Who's is this?" She only said, "Iain's, I think." And then people like you the world over started bandwagon jumping on an old lady.

A little respect for your elders wouldn't kill you, I promise.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-01 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Pfffffftt. She didn't sabotage Iain, Iain sabotaged himself by first not letting his ice cream freeze harder while in the machine (you could see it was far too soft when he spooned it out into the pan) and then by losing his temper and tossing his baked alaska even though the issue he had with it was the exact same issue faced by the rest of the contestants.
