Try Skype. Phone sex. Dirty letters by carrier pigeon. The options are there in a way that don't end with a freeze frame of your nude self in cyber space.

Skype = Internet connection not always reliable. And also, no reliable way to know that the video isn't being recorded or screenshot on the other end anyways.

Phone sex = Long distance + roaming charges. Also, no reliable way to know if the call is being recorded on the other end or if it's a landline, someone else is listening.

Letters = Takes too long. And no guarantee that the letter will actually get to them. It could get lost in the mail or a nosey roommate/family member/neighbor could open it.

And in all situations (including sexting and nude pics) an angry ex could repost all of it if they're an asshole.

Basically, you're not 100% safe from doing anything. So, your only real choice is to not do it. That's like saying to someone that the only sure way not to get pregnant is to not have sex. Yes, it's rational, but it's not practical for most people involved because they want that sort of intimacy with each other.
