i actually don't see why the latter would make it any better. that's my point. her implants don't change the fact that the lyrics are gross. it's not relevant to bring up. it just sounds like more of the same thing.

Because then you were born with it and you had no choice in the matter. It's still bad, but I wouldn't say it's as bad as this is.

Someone who was born with an ass like that didn't buy into the ideal image, make a great effort to become it, then turn around and insult the people who she was once like, for not following in her footsteps.

if it's still bad then i don't think whether or not she had implants or was born with it really matters in the discussion. i think bringing the implants up isn't necessary and choosing to do so anyway just seems really shady. the argument that she's in the wrong for body shaming is sound as is. that's just how i see it.

Because there are different levels of bad and things aren't as simple as black or white and right and wrong. Some things are worse than others.

We're all in agreement that body shaming is bad, and the argument is sound as is, but there's more to it than that. What we are trying to say is that it's more offensive depending on where the shaming comes from.

For an example of something bad and "more" bad, I would be more offended by a person of my race who tried their hardest to be white, dyed their hair, bleached their skin, and tried to leave the group, who dissed my race's appearance, than an average person of my race who insulted my race's appearance, because they're still part of it.

Sometimes it matters who is saying it and where it is coming from. The same insult from an average woman vs from a woman who has had plastic surgery to look the way she does, comes from a different standpoint.

i fundamentally disagree with the notion that one is bad and the other is worse, so i don't think we're going to see eye to eye regardless. i think the point that her lyrics aren't feminist can be made without picking apart her body.

And I fundamentally disagree that anyone is picking apart or insulting her body. Saying implants are implants is not an insult, it's the truth. What the anons in this thread are against is Nicki's attitude about her appearance which includes them. Since the attitude in question is about her appearance which includes them, however, we can't simply dismiss it and act like the implants play no part in this. You appear to be the only one that can, and none of us see how.

because bringing them up makes it sound like a "real vs fake" argument where her bad opinion holds less merit BECAUSE of the implants, when in reality it should hold not merit because it's just a nasty opinion in general. jut pasting IMPLANTS over her ass without proper context CAN be seen as body shaming. if you feel the need to bring them up in this context then there's a better way to do it, even if i disagree i seem to be the only one here, so i'm not going to act like you can't, there's just a better way to discuss it ie. how you've personally laid it down which unfortunately didnt happen in the context of the secret.

i know it's not what i said, but i'm obviously the only person here who thinks bringing them up doesn't have to be made relevant. everyone else seems to think it's vital or necessary, so yeah i'm going to complain, but i'm not expecting people who clearly disagree to change their mind about it.

do you have a source where she's explicitly said that she's shaming skinny women for not changing themselves? i think you're making an assumption about her message when really i think it's as basic as "you're skinny so fuck you." that's different than saying "you didn't change yourself to be like me so fuck you."

i feel like i'm just not making my point clear at all which is pretty much the story of my life so i think i'd be doing everybody a service if i just flounced from this thread bc no amount of going back and forth will produce an agreement. sorry

because changing herself is what she had to do to stop being skinny and is the only reason the body she thinks qualifies her to pass that judgment exists. it's not rocket science. people don't always spell out their exact intentions in Shakespearean soliloquys, but this isn't even subtle, it's 2+2.
