Yeah, because of its size, it really depends on the individual subreddits that you choose to subscribe to. But unlike, say, tumblr, the separation between communities is much more defined, so the wank in one subreddit is unlikely to become another subreddit's problem, even if they have related topics. My fandom and gaming subs are quite peaceful despite being very active, with dedicated mods. And you get used the format pretty quickly and can keep track of your comments very easily.
