I'd say Martha from Doctor Who, she's not even my favorite companion but I think a lot of people missed her awesomeness because they missed Rose and/or because they didn't like Martha crushing on the Doctor.

But she was honestly pretty awesome, she was intelligent and independent and of any companion in New Who she had the best end to her series.

Martha's my absolute favorite of the New Who companions. She was pretty damn awesome and I'm really damn protective of her.
