Then again, it's the same reason my fandom is full of AUs whose characters have little to nothing in common with their canon counterparts but the name. It's something I don't understand - I like *these* characters, not Generic Male #846937 who happens to look like one of them.
People seem to really like characters being ooc.
Then again, I've had someone in a fandom tell me once that uh, of COURSE they would NEVER write about the icky, horrible canon version of the character! Their AU version of him is COMPLETELY different, and I shouldn't dare confuse them because Canon Dude is evil and abusive.
And I'm like................. wtf. If you hate him, why write about him at all.
