I think this is pretty true generally as well, but there's a lot of misinformation about both sexes out there and because their touted as 'truths' people don't tend to question them(or at least that's how it seems to me sometimes anyway).

Honestly, there are a lot of those truths that people don't even question about their own gender. So many people think they're the exception to the rules about their gender without considering that maybe there's more variation than they think.

Oh definitely, I know I believed a whole lot of BS about my own body and 'what girls are like' because they were spouted at me(most often by adults) for years and I didn't question is as a kid because, well surely those people know better right?

It's all very messy.

That makes a lot of sense - and explains why there's so much special snowflaking going on among people who really don't actually stray very far from "average." Most people are going to come across ways they differ from the stated "truths" but some people must find it easier to assume they are exceptions than question the original statements and the people who made them.
