(Anonymous) 2014-09-06 08:13 am (UTC)(link)When I was a kid, I was taken to Disney moves and they were nice enough, but Disney itself as a company was seen as a bit trashy and cynical. Ao I don't get that sense of nostalgia that's evident in those tumblr posts.
Especially the theme parks. When I was a kid, there was talk of opening EuroDisney and I listened to the debate. The theme park itself was considered rather manipulative (as it was aimed at kids) expensive (as it ripped parents off) unsuited to the culture it was landing in, and just rather seedy in general. It was not universally welcomed.
I actually visited EuroDisney once to see what the fuss was about. I did find it rather shallow and dull. Being sited next to Paris, one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in the world, certainly doesn't do anything to help the comparison.
I am absolutely not surprised to find that any large company that likes to ride roughshod over local opinion also treats its own workers badly.
