You know it really depends on what fandom you fall in whether it is slash heavy, of the fandoms that I am active in, none of them is particularly slash heavy, in fact one has a moderate slash following, but nothing zealous or overpowering, the other had one when it was more active, but still the majority of the fic produced was het, the other one had an extremely subtexty relationship between two male characters, but still most of the fandom is focused on the het couples from the series. So really it is a fandom by fandom basis.

The thing is there isn't really anything you can do about it, people are going to write/read what they like, and in some fandoms what most people prefer is slash. It sucks sometimes to see nothing else, but there are avenues to find more of what you like.

37. Eh, I never really participate at FW, even though I have an account, I still mainly lurk. I watch it mainly to keep in touch with what is going on I mean how else would I have learned of the stupidity that was RDR books?

Thank you for a polite, thoughtful disagreement.

Other than that, I know there's nothing I can do. Hence the secret. Built up frustration at my lack of ability to change anything.

I can see where you're coming from, and I think I can accept this because this is a secret and it read like venting, even though I think that in time hopefully you can find what you like and not focus on how much there is of something that you don't, and it doesn't become as frustrating. If you know where to look and what exactly you're looking for, you will find it is much easier to find the stuff that you like amidst all the stuff that you don't.

I've watched several fandoms combat this 'overabundance of yaoi' with organized efforts to promote het ficathons, het communities and het story support by other het writers. those fandoms have florishing het fic activity.

so the lack of ability to change anything falls rather weak. at least you sort of imply that you choose not to try.
