True. This is also true for even slash couples, when the couple is obscure/crack. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't make sense to resent yaoi when... some of us are in the same boat. ):

If anything, resenting the popular pairings might work. Unless you always ship those.

Note that I'm not attacking your opinion, just explaining why I don't understand it.

It didn't come off as an attack. :)

I think the point I failed to make was that I don't resent yaoi shippers. I just resent that there's so much yaoi and so little gen/het. Writers will write what they want, readers will read what they want, but I really wish I was not in what seems like a very small minority.

As to popular pairings, in a lot of my fandoms those are slash. So that doesn't really help much.

Maybe I just need to quit shonen fandoms, I suppose.

I can totally understand that. Frankly, sometimes I end up resenting the popular yaoi pairings because... that's all people write. And they don't do it particularly well, either. :// I love popular pairings sometimes, too... but more often than not I'm pretty much alone in my corner with my crack!pairings; it's rather discouraging. ):

So I understand your frustration, and the need to vent; perhaps it comes down to the wording of your secret, which a lot of people seem to find unnecessarily inflammatory.

Haha. I guess that's the thing I LIKE about shonen fandoms; the rampant slashy subtext. XDXDXD Shoujo more often than not bores me to tears. >>;;;

I admit, I don't always get my viewpoint across very clearly, and that isn't helped by the space and other constraints of making a secret. Particularly when I suck at graphic design, too.

That's partly why I'm not writing much fic. If I can't get my own viewpoint across, how am I meant to be able to get the characters viewpoints across? :( I don't want to be another member of the slushpile for the rest of fandom to wade through looking for the goodfic.

I love shonen canons for the friendships and the fighting, so that's what I want to find fic for. And I would kill for a fic that can combine them and be an awesome rivalry fic, most preferably without fluff.
