Me too. I greatly appreciate well written stories about friendship, and often over romance.

That pic is adorable.

I like seeing this too, although I'm equally okay with friendship or romance, since I find the most appealing romances are also friendships.

This exactly.

Agreed on all accounts. (Now I want the picture OP used for their secret; it's adorable.)

Very much agreed.

I like both friendship and romance when it comes to this.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-07 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I like both friendship *and* romance with this, but IA that there's a special poignancy about friendship stories with this -- I guess because there's no "well, they weren't put off by each other's differences because they liked each other...and also because they found each other attractive and had romantic desires and feelings for each other" in friendship stories. Friendship is purely "they weren't put off by each other's differences because they liked each other."

It makes for a more...streamlined/clear-cut story, I guess?

Oh yes this! I think I've actually held this opinion for a long time, but I never could articulate it in my thoughts clearly enough. I really love romances between very different people too, but in certain stories I just don't want it to be there acting as a confounding variable if the emotional core of a story will be clearer or more cohesive without it.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
this!
there's also the fact that this narrative comes up way more often in (fictional?) marriages. often it's in a sexist or at least annoying "well they Have to tolerate each other for (sexual, social, gain in comfort)" way.

unlikely friendships just have less "self-interest" insofar. the loyality I like about it is easier to support

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-09-08 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this is how I feel, though it is articulated better than I could.

I get a great thrill from romances between very different people, but I get an entirely different type of thrill from friendships between very different people, and the two types of thrills are not really interchangeable for me.

OMG that pic is so adorable

Where is it from?

/totally off topic

Warning: This is so heartwarming it may cause you to cry rivers of tears.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-08 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but I think that is from the story of a lion, tiger and a bear who are friends (so even cuter than just a tiger and bear) who were rescued from a drug raid (douchebag drug dealers who thought it would be great to have wild animals as pets).

You can see the whole story here: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wild/unlikely-animal-friends/videos/lion-and-tiger-and-bear-oh-my/

Me too, OP. I guess it's because it makes me feel positive about humanity, and not a whole lot does that.

All I have to say to this:

UNLIKELY ANIMAL FRIENDS!!!!!!!11111

Apropos of nothing, the picture you chose made me think this was going to be about weird Jungle Book slash until I read the secret...

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-09-08 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
:D

I love you.

However, any Jungle Book slash would likely be Bagheera/Baloo, not Shere Khan/Baloo. Panther, not tiger! ;)

Hey, that's why Shere Khan/Baloo would be WEIRD Jungle Book slash!
