You are the pettiest of petty people.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-07 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? Because suddenly everything changed because once again right handed people are more important and god forbid they keep Link a lefty because righties wanted to play with the wiimote and have Link look like what they were doing? Because lefties can't even play a number of games because the way the 3ds is set up for righties?

Wow. Fuck off.

Please make this a secret.

Did you miss the part of the Wii games where you could choose what hand you use?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you miss the part where I was talking about the 3ds being impossible for lefties?
Did you also miss the part where I was talking about Nintendo taking a left handed character and making him a righty so righties didn't feel put out that whatever they did on the wii wasn't exactly what the character did onscreen? We all know that you can play with either hand. It was just a dick move to change something so ingrained in a character that has been around since the mid-80s because of something so stupid.

Except, much like how it is awkward for left-handed people to use the right-hand-oriented 3DS, it would be awkward for a right-handed person to swing their right hand and have Link swing his left hand. It was fine for games like Wind Waker, where you didn't really have any direct control over his hand, but I'm sure you're aware of how weird it feels to play with the "wrong" hand. I do think that Skyward Sword should have had a left-hand option, however, especially considering how involved the sword combat is. It's strange that they included it in TP but not in SS -- perhaps it required extra calibration? No excuse, but a possible explanation. Link is still canonically left-handed though, regardless of the right-handed option.

I hate to point this out, but the majority of people are right-handed. It's a matter of pragmatism on Nintendo's part designing what will work for most people.

Different Left-Handed Anon

Another left-handed person here.

The 3DS is NOT impossible to use. At all. I find the 3DS pretty easy and comfortable to use, actually. A lot of games will actually configure based on hand preference and I hate this idea you're spreading that suddenly I'm incapable of using a handheld because my hand preference is different because evil righties. Impossible my ass.

And I did not give two craps that Link became right-handed in Twilight Princess (the Wii version anyway; he's left-handed in the Gamecube version) and Skyward Sword since there are many incantations of Link and he was left-handed in Spirit Tracks and A Link Between Worlds. The vast majority of Links are left-handed. The Link in the Wii U tech demo is left-handed. The Links in both Hyrule Warriors and the upcoming Wii U game are both left-handed. Link is still a left-handed character and only became right-handed for the Wiimote supported titles.

The fact that you stopped playing the series because one, maybe two games tops out of a 19 game series have right-handed Links is stupid and, as another anon said, petty. But hey, more games for THIS left-handed gamer to play.

Did...we just find an SJW for left handed people?

And suddenly, the phrase "oppression Olympics" takes on a whole new and wonderful meaning.
