I don't approach it from the "rights vs. obligations of an individual" standpoint. Banning abortion leads to horrific results in 100% of cases, which is why abortion should never be banned. Anyone's personal opinion re:who has the right to what is pretty much irrelevant.

I remember there was this one scene in a Russian (?) book about the USSR where a country doctor, in an attempt to persuade the authorities to legalize abortion, shows a local official a jar with a woman's womb. In this womb is a foetus; but both the foetus and the womb are wrapped in and pierced by the shoots of an onion bulb. To place an onion bulb into the womb was one of the cheaper ways to kill the foetus, but it often resulted in the death of the mother.

(which doesn't mean I do not have a personal opinion, of course; technically speaking, I'm firmly pro-choice).

I'm anti abortion but this sums up my feelings on why the government shouldn't intercede. Basically, people will do what they feel they have to and if it's illegal, it's just more dangerous for those undergoing the procedure and more misery all around.
