I'm pro-life and my reasons for that are far more personal than philosophical. When my mother was pregnant with my youngest sister, her doctor advised her to have an abortion because the pregnancy was high risk. My mother went through with the pregnancy and gave birth to my sister despite the risks. So, for me, I can't see it as the abortion of a fetus, I think of it in terms of the person my sister is because my mother have birth to her and that, in many cases, aborted fetuses would be born and grow into individuals themselves. This is long winded but that's my reason for believing that abortion should be avoided if possible.

And guess what? Your mom had the CHOICE. And that's awesome.

Want to hear another story? My mom, several weeks before she got pregnant with me, had an extrauterine pregnancy and almost DIED. She also got pregnant in her 40s (after being told she couldn't have children) and had to seriously consider abortion if my brother had abnormalities. Why? Because she knew that she wouldn't be around forever and that she would be leaving him as a burden on her already born to children. And she didn't want to do that. Fortunately, nothing showed up in my brother's screen and he's healthy and happy.

But you know what both of our mom's had? They had a choice.

If organ donation was FORCED then a lot of people who died would live. And the only things affected would be corpses. But we don't force it. We don't even force blood donation. Which isn't even 1/10000 the commitment abortion is. And these are LIVES that could be saved of thinking, feeling human beings. Not "potential" people that can't even feel pain.

That's why the pro-life position is BS.

I'm not saying that I'm against abortion when it's the only choice, I just think that people oversimplify things when they act like a fetus is a clump of cells and that's all. There's more to it than that.

Except it isn't. A fetus is a clump of cells. I'm a clump of cells too. But I can think and feel. A cow can feel. A fetus can't do either before 20 weeks. Just because it has human DNA doesn't mean I'm going to treat is as special. A tumor has human DNA as well. So do sperm and eggs. That it will develop into a person is irrelevant to me. Everyone will eventually die too. But we judge people by what they ARE rather than what they WILL become (and there's still a chance a fetus might not make it anyway).

All right. You're unconvinced by my way of thought. I'm not convinced by your "clump of cells" thought process. Since we're not about to agree, I suppose we should just agree to disagree and call it a day.

Cool.

I'm not convinced of your way of thought because it's just an opinion.

Note that all I did was list facts:

Fact one: All organisms are composed of clumps of cells
Fact two: I, as a human being, can think and feel
Fact three: A cow can feel
Fact four: A pre-20 week old fetus can neither think nor feel

Fact five: We'll all be dead one day, but the fact that we're all "potential" corpses is the basis for exactly zero of our behavior towards each other
Fact six: A fetus MAY be born, but unlike death, it's not a 100% certainty.

LOL. All right.

Well, if you want to tell me which of my statements was factually incorrect, I'd be happy to hear it!
