You don't have to worry about that.

People are not ruining your characters though. No one is.

Because at the end of the day, no fanfic changes what's in the canon. None of them Unless the writer notices and copies it but I'm pretty sure that's illegal. Literally nothing is being done to you or your characters unless you click on a link.

It's a choice.

We've all clicked on fics we didn't like.

It happens and it sucks. But unless the summary or tags are literally misleading, it is not the author's fault or responsibility.
