True, but she was like that in a really girly way. Happy and perky and cheery and flirty and everybody join the party committee~~ ^_^ _^ _^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^ Personally I kinda couldn't stand her.

I mean an FF girl that's actually just not girly period -- not to say she has to BE STRONG and FIGHT WELL and be MASCULINE in order to be "not girly" -- just one that isn't all you know, stereotypically one gender.

Yeah, I can dig that as a viable (and awesome) character archetype as long as people aren't all THEN SHE WOULDN'T BE GIRLY AND SUCKY about it :O

Yuffie was kind of like that.

(Or maybe she wasn't and I just remember her that way because she's cooler that way? It's been a couple years.)

But then, she was also an optional character, so it wasn't like she got much screen time or development anyway.

No, Yuffie was totally like that! Foul-mouthed and bratty, she'll steal your materia and scarper as soon as you turn your back. XD

And she had to fight and win against the top ninja of her village (including her father, and he was a bit tricky, actually)!

I'd like to see more memorable, boyish girls in most series. It seems like a somewhat rare breed.

I'll admit - I have a tremendous soft spot for woman characters who actually act like women, rather than men's opinions of women (http://img.stern.de/_content/53/80/538015/mgs_boss_750.jpg).

Oh, screw it, I just like interesting female characters (http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/3019/evajy3.jpg), even if they don't act quite like real people. People in stories can't act quite like real people, because real people don't have personalities which are clearly defined enough to be interesting in stories, half the time.
