22. No offense, but I'm starting to wonder if we played the same Xenosaga games. I found Xenosaga II to be quite awful. The battle system was initially unique, but easily became annoying with the Zone shit, the character designs were terrible because all of them were so damn tall, the graphics left much to be desired, the loading times were way too long, the voices fit the characters but the acting itself was horrible, oh, I could keep going. The biggest issue was the writing. The flow of the game was so -- god, it didn't even exist.

Xenosaga III fixed most of that stuff. I'm not saying it beats out Ep. I, but compared to Ep. II, it's gold.

Yeah, that seems to be the impression I got from most of the fans - it's kind of the black sheep of the series. :\ I liked the whole zone thing, the way certain characters had elements innate in their attacks so you had to pick your party carefully. (I've seriously played it three times. I never get sick of the battles.)

III dumped the whole attacking system that made me like one in the first place, and chucked out all the customization that made me like II.

I enjoyed the writing for all three games equally. The thing that got on my nerves for the second game was the BGM, especially in the cities (gag!) - but at least it was better than the complete lack of BGM in the first game (which had some of the most bland, repetitive backgrounds to boot.) Having Kajiura Yuki do the score for the third game was most definitely a step in the right direction.

I know I'm in the minority, and I don't really get the hate for II, but I guess different strokes and all that...

27. Did you play FFXII? Because if Ashe is any girly stereotype, it's not one I'm familiar with. What about Agrias from FFT? Or Beatrix, or Celes, or Faris, from FFIX, VI, and V respectively?

Really, this is going to be wank ground zero, but shit son, I'm beginning to think that some of you people miss the fact that most of the FF guys are walking stereotypes too. I mean, it's not like the villains aren't all immediately identifiable as cut from the same cloth, you can look at any protagonist and ID them from the first glance, too.

Oh and, I might get shot for this, but out of all the characters, you say Paine? She's... a little stereotypical, imo? Sure, she's not the JRPG MAIN FEMALE stereotype, but it's not like she's the most novel character the games ever had. I don't think it ruins her character or anything, but if being stereotypical makes you unable to like a character, I find it unusual.

You said it. The FF guys are just a different kind of cookie-cutter stereotype. You have guys who are sullen and angsty, guys who are upbeat and dumb, and guys who are -- umm, let's go with sarcastic and distant. That covers about 75% of recent heroes. (And even this only applies if you assume that, say, all "girls who are nice" are the same kind of character, which I don't.)

Celes and Ashe are miles away from a misogynistic stereotype. (Ashe in particular is the least "female" female character I know of. She's got your metaphorical balls.)
