Oh God. and this is why people hate Rosefen. He's not in love with her. Seriously. I'm being straight with you. Not only is it robbing the cradle, it's bestiality.

Executive Producer who did the commentary on the DVD thinks otherwise... as do a lot of the creators of the show. Why else would they bring her back after such an epic and perfect departure for her character? Wouldn't it be better to leave her that way? No? Because they like her and the Doctor's dynamic and it just so happens to have won over the majority of the fans too? *sigh*

Also I don't think age makes any difference at all when you're as old as The Doctor is... an adult is an adult and you can't just call it "robbing the cradle" because he's much older than her. He's much older than everyone! It's a TV show for chrissakes, don't bring age (or bestiality?!) into it.

He's an alien. It's bestiality. He's also 900 years old. Considering that people tend to get squicked by an age gap of 50 years, I think that age definitely has something to do with it. Or do you think that a 70 year old guy should totally be banging an 18 year old?

Also, Rusty wants to bang the Doctor and is trying to use Rose to do it, sorry to say.

Again you're applying the limitations of social acceptance in real human society to an alien in a TV show. If you don't get why a 900 year old alien who appears human; young and attractive with a fun, and somewhat flirtatious personality (not like he rustles about in slippers talking about the old days, is it?) can be attracted to a young HUMAN woman of similar appearance of age who is mutally attracted to him, then I think I should just stop bothering to argue the point with you because you seem intent on finding reasons that don't exist. Believe me, age isn't an issue to anyone who favours the Doctor/Rose coupling. Simply because what "squicks" people is not an issue in the case of the Doctor. Sorry to say but people are shallow. No, I don't think a 70 year old should be "banging" an 18 year old, that's something completely seperate from a 900 year old alien falling in love with a 20-something human.

He's not human. He doesn't have the same emotions or understanding of the mental make up of human beings. I have no problem with the idea of him loving her. Just not being in love. Hell and damnation. My problem with Doctor/Rose is, in fact, that it's shallow. There's no understanding of the Doctor as a being who is not human and who is not the age that he appears at first glance. A 900 year old time traveling alien is not going to just fall for a human girl not even a tenth of his age and never get over her.

There's still the great possibility that the Doctor is in fact half human. Anyway...

I suppose the whole "you don't choose who you fall in love with" line isn't going to work on you is it. Since you don't seem to believe the Doctor falls in love the same way humans do?

I don't really have any problem with the Doctor moving on with his life and tidying his memories of Rose away in a little box labelled "women I once loved" and continuing with the show as it has done for a long time.
That's inevitable isn't it? The creators said themselves... he was falling in love, getting close to settling down. So they had to destroy it all and start anew because the essence of the series is that the Doctor will always be traveling.

I believe the issue was that the Doctor won't simply "forget" Rose when he regenerates like the time they spent together meant nothing to him. Season 3 showed quite obviously it did mean something to him. Season 4 will bring it all to an end no doubt for better or for worse. But I simply don't share your opinion about the Doctor's love for Rose, I don't think it was platonic I think he genuinely loved her romantically.

This story of him not feeling love the same way humans do--has this ever been said for certain, or are you just pulling that out of the ether for the sake of argument?

There's a whole host of problems with the idea that he loved Rose more than every other companion (remember that one of those Companions was his grand-daughter and he never bothered to mourn her). There's another passel of them about the idea that he was close to settling down; this the Doctor, after all. I doubt he'd ever settle down even without the production team's interference.
I think that he doesn't love the same way as humans because he's always been alien. I keep getting the feeling that you've never seen the older episodes, and I don't think you'll understand why I and so many other people get so frustrated by the canonization of Rose until and unless you do.
I think the treatment of Rose in Season Three did no service to Rose or to Martha and he needed to tidy his memories of Rose immediately after Season Two was over. The extended moping has more to do with RTD's inability to let his favoritest character go than Rose and their actual relationship.
