(Anonymous) 2014-09-10 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)I'm sure most people feel in the middle about the whole thing, like I do. Maybe it's because I don't follow or have interacted with any insane SJWs, but generally most of any potential "SJW" stuff I've seen is generally agreeable-- victim blaming is bad, more strong female women leads in media pls, more women/poc in white majority fields, etc. I mean, as a woman of color, stuff like that isn't unreasonable to me and isn't necessarily 'taking away' anything so I don't see the problem with pointing out these issues.
But at the same time I've never been fully persuaded that 'cultural appropriation', like a white girl wearing a kimono, or that any sort of sexualization of women is bad and than men were inherently the enemy or something. I only got the brunt of 'crazy SJWs' when Ryumako fans in the KLK fandom were legitimately crying out "QUEER ERASURE!" at even the slightest disagreement that it may not have been canon. At worst, an extreme SJW really is a 'professional victim' which is not a great position to take if you're trying to 'empower' yourself.
Overall, I'd lean toward SJWs since more often than not I think it's better to talk about an issue than not to talk about it at all. Of course, at the same time, it means if you want to talk about an issue, you should legitimately be open minded about it, even moreso when the people you're 'defending' are telling you it's not an issue.
