Oh god, this is a movie?!

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2014-09-12 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
ITT we post the thing we are most shocked went from whatever to having a movie adaptation.

Could be good, could be bad, but when you heard it existed you had a reaction ranging from a confused "why" to a mournful "WHYYYYYY!?!"

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
I thought it was pretty cute, all in all, but I was like WTF when I learned it was getting a movie. I'm still confused over whether Battleship is actually supposed to be a tie-in for the Hasbro board game.

It is. They were trying to do something similar to Transformers.

I think that thing was more like "Can we tie a product into this? YES WE CAN!" Because there's nothing about it that would have said "We should have named this battleship!" if they'd used a different title.

But I do think the second movie is kinda an epic amazeballs of adorableness.

Food animals FTW!!!!

The food animals were the best. Literal examples of so cute I could eat it.

Smurfs. The original material wasn't very good, and no one noticed in multiple stages of design and visualization that they created creepy little fuckers.

World War Z. I just don't understand why they would make a movie out of it. And such a terrible one. That book would be so awesome as a television or mini-series.

I didn't read the book so I was satisfied with the movie. But thanks for reminding me to pick the book back up.

The audiobook is amazing as well if you enjoy listening to stuff while doing boring stuff (like work :P).

Ah, that sounds cool, too.

Psst, look for the audiobook that's called World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition): An Oral History of the Zombie War, the other version is the abridged one.

Seriously. The only good thing bout the movie is that it meant we got an unabridged* version of the audiobook as a tie in. :I

*At least I think it's unabridged, I honestly haven't had time to listen to the entire thing, but wiki says that it "contains the entirety of the original, abridged audiobook, as well as new recordings of each missing segment." So, I'm going to assume that that's what that means.

Well, apparently there's an animated Neverending Story...

But, if anything, it'd be The Little White Horse/ The Secret of Moonacre. I just. Why?

Any movies involving CGI Chipmunks singing in digitally altered voices are goddamn fucking abominations.

Transformers. It isn't just that the movies are laughably bad. I just don't honestly get what is so awesome about even the concept once you get outside the toys. Toys that can change shapes? Cool. But why does that mean they make them into cartoons/movies/etc., and why are they so popular?

Stargate, to be honest. It turned into a fairly enjoyable movie, one really awesome tv show, one so-so tv show, and one not good tv show. But why did the crackpot theories of one random nut get made into a movie? I honestly don't understand why anyone at the time thought that was a good idea, even if the ultimate results were good.

Some Muppets movie, I don't remember which one. I was tiny and ignorant of such movies having already existed, but I was still shocked and somewhat indignant about the concept of having a movie version of something that's already fun on tv.

I had a big "why" over the Green Lantern movie being in the works. Half of it was because DC never greenlights (ahugurrrhurr) decent live action things imo, and also because I'd rather have another animated one.

Pick a movie released in the last five years.

yeah, that one. Oh god, why didn't the writers learn to write a plot and not rely on FX, fast cuts, and lens flare.

There ya go. The all purpose this-movie-is-drek complaint.

Battleship.

I mean, initially I thought it was a parody, no one was actually making a Battleship movie.

Then I thought it was just a joke people were making about a movie that happened to be called Battleship.

Then not long ago I was flipping channels and the on-TV guide said in the description that it was based on the board game and I was like ._.

...

Having said that, why isn't there a Hungry Hungry Hippos movie yet?
