Same. I'm a couple episodes behind but it's as entertaining and ridiculous as ever. The character drama and plot stuff is great this season, too!

Hey, have you ever heard of doujinshi? I know you've said you're into Haikyuu right now and this one scan company (september.strawberrywine.org/) does some Haikyuu doujinshi, if you're interested.

Yes, I know what it is! I've actually already read some extremely fluffy Haikyuu doujinshi that was delightful, but I could always do with more! Thank you for the heads up! I have to go to bed now, but I'll def check it out tomorrow.

Long story short is that they ban Japanese IPs from visiting their site so they don't realize/can't do anything about their work being scanlated without their permission.

Do doujin scanlators even bother to ask circles if they wouldn't mind people scanning the doujins they bought and translating them? Just curious.

I had a friend who went out of their way to go and ask a Pixiv artist if they could translate one of their doujins for their translation blog, but my pessimism would guess that's a rarity (they're also not a scanlator/scanlation blog). ...That post went by my dash a month or two ago with a negative reaction to it. IMO I find that cheery response disturbing, but I don't know that much about doujin and scanlation stuff to form a proper opinion about it.

Yeah, you're probably right. If they know the language, I don't know why the don't bother to ask tbh. And I dunno, if it is a newly released doujinshi, they contact the author and say they will wait a few weeks or so before scanning and translating it. Just as a courtesy.

Laziness, maybe? Or impatience, even, since ya gotta keep pleasing the fandom to stay on top, ya know.

Fair warning, I've never done that so I'm not sure how it would work out. It was just my idle musings, I've never translated doujinshi or contacted artists/authors about it. It's just what I'd do if I knew the language and wanted to scan doujins. It just seems like common sense and decency imo.

If you or your friend do try it out, let me know how it goes. I'm super curious how artists would respond. :)

In SS's case she buys her stuff at events and bookstores. I don't know if they list their accounts in printed works, or if they all even have accounts, but I'm not really going to expect someone at a crowded event to ask authors if they can translate their stuff.

Not saying it's an okay thing to do, but realize that pretty much all doujinshi scanlations aren't approved the author and ignore the author's request to take down. Most don't go as far as IP blocking, but their practices are similar. At least Septemeber Scanlations is open about their practices and people can decide if they want to support that.

It comes with the territory, so supporting any doujinshi scanlation group, unless they explicitly state they have gotten permission and can prove it, you're supporting people you don't like.

What a bummer. :( Glad I didn't start reading anything before I scrolled down, because I'd rather not support them at all, even if I was reading something uploaded with the author's permission.

This is pretty much the same as other scanlation groups who restrict access to their stuff through membership. Most groups who do printed works (basically any group that mentions/specifies scanning stuff) don't ask the author's permission. This includes manga as well as doujinshi.

It's different when you're japanese. Their system works for themselves, not for outsiders.

I don't know if I'd call downloading stuff 'supporting.' Unless they're getting ad revenue somehow you're not really supporting them unless you donate or something.

oh please, are you and the other people complaining about this new to anime fandom or something? the only people I've heard make an issue of this are 15 and younger.

this is how anime fandom has worked forever. do you think ANY of the old doujinshi that were scanlated in the 90s and 00s were given permission to do so? it's always been underground and skeptically legal. hell, anime fandom EXISTS because of illegal fansubs and scanlations formed the basis of a sizable fandom.

if you think they're the only doujinshi group out there blocking Japanese addresses you're naive.
