I know the Danny Phantom fandom has a huge love for angst and writing stories that match the darkness level of The Ultimate Enemy which is the darkest but also recognized as the best.
Not everyone has the same view or approach to writing their favorite characters.
You can say "when people write this, I assume this about them" and think whatever assumptions you want about them. But you can't really tell them to stop writing it.
