(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)That might be shitty too, but you can't always expect a really strong friendship to be formed on the basis of liking the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)But you never know. I had an online friend who always acted a little aloof online, I really expected her to keep to herself (we were meeting at a small meetup of sorts), but she ended up being the most lively one there.

Re: Confession Thread
(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)For some of these people, we actually do talk and know more about each other than just fandom stuff, but our conversations still mainly center around things in connection with the fandom we're both in (whether because of the personal interests I mentioned or just knowing each other on one site). It might just be me, but I personally regard "fandom friend" as a relationship similar to that and an actual online friendship as something where interactions aren't as limited, which is why I didn't think the original comment was as negative as others viewed it-- some of those online friends they mentioned might just be their friends in the sense of sharing and frequently communicating about a fandom.
I guess people's definitions of the term probably vary a lot, though. The fact that a lot of this stuff happens on tumblr, where blogs can be mainly fandom-related along with IRL drama, probably helps too.
