the first story i ever finished was when i was about 14. i wrote it mostly while i was in a rehabilitative facility, and it helped me cope. it was bad - again, i was 14 - but when my stepmother threw it away i was still pretty unhappy about it. i thought about it decomposing in a landfill somewhere or having the ink run when it rained and eventually i just considered it lost.

the plot was bad, the characters were ok but could have used work, and the writing style was underdeveloped. but i thought the story itself could be saved; in time i'd forgotten many of the plot points, but i decided to rework the plot and write everything from scratch.

can't remember how old i was then but it's been a few years. im still, STILL trying to work out the plot. i've been trying to write again - i stopped for awhile - but i can't seem to progress in the story, which makes sense because my hopes for the plot are still really vague.

i'm also no longer happy with the writing style. i don't think the pace is very smooth. there are long periods of dialogue and then paragraphs of silly details.

i'm also in the process of rewriting the second (and last) story i ever finished, but i just don't have the mental energy right now. the quality of my stuff has suffered in recent years.

Oh wow. I am so sorry that someone threw it out like that. That's awful , parents shouldn't do something like that. :< *hug*

i've gotten over it. if anything it's forced me to redo the plot completely which is a good thing. i'm just stuck. i know what i want the result to be, but the explanation behind it is still in need of fleshing out. i think i've made it too complicated.

Ahhhh.

Yeah that can be a good thing. Hmm have you considered showing it to trusted friends? Sometimes they can spot the holes or point out what can be expanded on.

I'm sorry that happened to you! I had the opposite problem--if I tried to throw away anything I had written, my mother would rescue it, convinced that I would regret it later. It made me paranoid about destroying anything I wanted to get rid of--I made a couple of bonfires that almost turned disastrous. But it seems like it all comes from the same place--parents thinking that even the stuff that you've created somehow doesn't belong to you, but to them.
