This secret. Jeez.

I'm sorry OP but I deeply, thoroughly disagree to the edge, just the edge, of offense. While cops aren't portrayed as perfect people (and, yes, the bad-ass cop fantasy is overdone), US media is way too in love with cops. It kinda makes me sick. I find the gushing over cops, soldiers, firefighters, et al to be obnoxious and blind. I would like more stories that spotlight corruption and incompetence in these organizations because it's rampant. I have friends who are cops who I strongly suspect should not wear a badge or a gun holster. I know others who quit the force because they did not want to be associated with something they saw as broken. There are many good cops but there are too many bad ones and I'm tired of seeing all cops portrayed as angels.

See, I absolutely hate police corruption storylines and I feel like almost every police procedural (or any other show with a strong police presence) ends up having a police corruption storyline -- many have it as an ongoing thing. The main characters are usually the good cops (though I don't like the "good cops" who are mavericks and bullies) so it's understandable that they should be more upstanding but I think it's incorrect to suggest that there's a lot of gushing. Cop shows like drama. Crooked cops, corrupt departments, over-the-edge officers -- that's all good drama, and I see a lot of it. Cops are rarely portrayed as angels.

Have you looked on actual non-fictional media?

The OP said that fictional cops were treated like angels. My point is that they're not. I'm not touching real life.
