Re: Minor perks of your job

I'm an office assistant, and I honestly think my job has helped me know how to handle calls (as well as conversations) with assistants, receptionists, that sort of thing. You'd be surprised at how many people have NO CLUE how to call an office. I'm patient with them, it's no big deal, but for instance, people hate elaboration. Except that's the only way I can help you! You don't need to give me your life story, but "got milk?" just throws me off, and it's not an efficient conversation for either of us.

That's always a useful skill to learn.

I imagine it probably sucks if people won't give you what you need to do your job. :/ Good thing to know.

It's mostly a problem when they act like I'm the idiot. I mean, I can certainly understand how from their perspective it might be obvious (they know what they're talking about, so....), but that doesn't mean it's obvious from mine.

Yeah that's the worst.

When I worked in the toy section of Walmart I got a call from this guy who gave a request and a bunch of numbers at the speed of light and I'm like "sir can you slow down?" and then he starts ranting at me about how "I've called 7 WALMARTS AND THEY HAVEN'T HELPED ME" and I'm trying to tell him to slow down but then I'm just like "I'll give this to a supervisor" Supervisor takes the call and forwards to a manager and is like "he is NOTgoing to talk to me like that". I looked at her wide eyed and said "...what'd they say to you?"

Break comes around I notice some of the managers there and ask "hey what happened with that bike guy" come to find out he CUSSED OUT THE MANAGER.

Damn. and to think all this could have been avoided if he just slowed down and repeated the numbers.
