Warning labels

So I was spraying a hornets nest with some insecticide and the spray poured down my arm. The can said to rinse your skin for 15-20 minutes and then call poison control. I'm not an expert but that seems somewhat extreme to me. Doesn't it seem extreme to you? I mean, it's just household insecticide.

It is in case you start to have an extreme reaction or really soak your self in a lot of it. You should certainly wash your arm thoroughly to get the residue off, it doesn't do you much good, but if it is just a little it'll not do you much harm. It is mainly a CYA for the pesticide company, but even household insecticides can do damage if you have a sensitivity or if you get a large dose.

I see. Yeah, I rinsed as directed. I was just surprised by the strength of the warning. I was like wondering if I was going to grow another ear or something.

It doesn't seem that extreme to me. Some insecticides are neurotoxins that can be absorbed through the skin.

That sounds like something right up GLaDoS' alley.

The AlleGation that there is Rat Poison, HoBO semen and neurotoxin in your lunch is untrue, Aperture Labs does not stock Rat PoisOn or neur0toxins.

The main antagonist from the Portal games. She's great. She likes to use neurotoxins to hopefully kill you.

I suppose it depends on the chemicals themselves. If it's just a little dribble, it probably won't do any irreversible damage, but you should probably clean the area thoroughly.

I've heard somewhere that your skin can absorb up to 60% of anything that you put on it.
