Ugh I think I actually heard something about this, but putting it like that makes me go 'uggggh'.

I am not a Sherlock and Watson fan.

Yeah, while I'm okay with Sherlock Holmes and watched a few of the numerous adaptations, I'm not too happy about this choice.

I think it'd be nice if the characters were actually just big fans of the novels trying to imitate the characters, instead.

I just don't see why Holmes and Watson need to be in AA games. They (basically) about defending falsely accused people in court and proving their innocence via the guilt of the true perpetrator. Barring the AAI games, they're not really about Holmes style (private investigator) detecting, and even in AAI, it's more about a lawyer using his court experience to prove who did it (so different style to the likes of Holmes, Paul Temple etc). IMO Holmes and Watson don't fit in the AA universe.

If, as you said, the characters were enthralled by the idea of Holmes and Watson and decided to become detectives or lawyers, I could just buy it (given my limited knowledge if Japanese history, the Meiji period was very much adapting to Western ways prove they weren't weird, exotic and barbarian, but civilised and worth treating as equals, so I can see young people reading Western books and getting ideas for how things should be done in their culture). But 'real life' Holmes and Watson, in Japan, doing AA style stuff just rubs me the wrong way....it's one thing to move the English versions settings to America, and have American things pop up (except you can still tell they're very Japanese based), but having them set very much in Japan, in a specific Japanese time period... To me, it's just weird to suddenly throw Holmes in. Like if you threw in Poirot or Miss Marple, Paul Temple, or Jessica Fletcher show up in Meiji (Mid-late Victorian era) Japan. They'd seem out of place.

Maybe I enjoy the current 'next Sunday AD settings' games to see how this'll work.

The game doesn't take place solely in Japan. The protagonist travels to England to learn more about law, where he meets Holmes and Watson. There are some screenshots of the English courtroom, as well as the Japanese one. I'm not sure how much time is spent in each location though.

If Holmes and Watson aren't the main playable characters, and just side characters we meet, in England, that makes me happy. I don't tend to frequent places for pre-release, still being developed news.

It sounds like they're acting as Gumshoe or Ema Skye?
