Re: book club thread: October tiebreaker
(Anonymous) 2014-09-16 02:07 am (UTC)(link)Neither of these is available in my libraries (again). Gonna have to sit out this month again, I guess.
Re: book club thread: October tiebreaker
Out of curiosity, how big is your library system? Did it have the first couple of books we did (when missing_y was the organizer)?
Re: book club thread: October tiebreaker
(Anonymous) 2014-09-16 02:48 am (UTC)(link)Fairly big, actually. I'd prefer to stay anonymous as to my location, but the way things are structured in my country (I'm not in the US), I've got two libraries right near my house, and like six more just a smidge further out. The selection across those libraries is usually quite wide, with literature across a range of countries, genres, etc.
I wasn't really around for the first few meetings, I think (had some RL stuff going on). I remember I did manage to get The Golem and the Jinni, though I wasn't able to take part in the discussion. Don't remember what the other books were, though...

(Anonymous) 2014-09-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, I figured it was probably one of those reasons. But no worries! I like hearing what people have to say about books even if I haven't managed to read them, so I'll still follow the discussions, and look forward to when there's a book I can take part in discussing =D

(Anonymous) 2014-09-16 11:21 am (UTC)(link)Re: book club thread: October tiebreaker
(Anonymous) 2014-09-16 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)I think you might be confusing me for other anons - I've always been supportive of the book club, but luck of the draw means I haven't been able to read the past couple of books or whichever will get picked this time. (I was the anon who brought up the availability issue just before the new poll went up, and suggested it factor into tie-breaks at least.) It's in no way a statement on the organisers. There are only so many allowances you can make with people from all across the globe, and you certainly can't cater to everyone's ability to get the book. I'm fully aware of that, and have nothing but respect for diet_poison and Bigpaw for pulling this together.
Right now, every dollar counts for me, so no. I'm not going to buy the books, "incredibly cheap" or not. (Also, way to go assuming everyone has cards to buy stuff online - which no, I don't.) I'll just join in when a book's chosen that I can borrow from my local libraries.
Re: book club thread: October tiebreaker
ETA: read their comment, and apparently it is the case. So even more so - don't go around making assumptions about people.
