I get it, OP. But I also get why this is a secret.

Don't make a big deal of it. Don't complain. Show your fandom friends (in private) the picture you got and tell them that you're not that happy with it and that you wouldn't necessarily recommend this artist to them if it will make you feel better. But then shrug it off. It's not that big a deal. Fanart commission always has a bit of an element of Russian roulette to it unless the artist allows for incredibly specific directions, so really this is something that you're better off moving forward from.

I wouldn't say how big or small a deal it is without knowing how much OP paid. It'd take me a long time to get over the loss of enough of my hard-earned fandom budget, especially since it's never as much as I want to have.

But that's just it. If it was large amount of money, then there is an understanding that what you're doing is a bit of a gamble, because you don't know what kind of product you'll get in the end and there aren't really clear refund policies for fan-commissioned art. So if you know what kind of deal you're getting into, it's better to move on than dwell on it if you ended up getting the short end of the stick.
