They're asking she actually fucking do what she promised. That is, buy the fucking games she's reviewing and the systems to go with them like she promised. There's no evidence she has, meaning all that money has been pocketed.

Keep defending her, you're obviously a stan. I literally have no horse in this race, I'm just tired of seeing her stealing and scamming being defended.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
There's no evidence she hasn't bought them/played them either. You can't prove that she's actually lying and so there's no fraud conviction in her future, so all this complaining is moot. Does she make crappy videos? Absolutely, but that's the problem with investing in someone: no guarantee you'll get what think you deserve, only a guarantee you'll get what was promised.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Except she's using other people's let's play footage.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
So? Is she claiming it's hers, or is she just using it? Because there's no good reason to re-record playing a video game when the footage already exists unless there are huge differences in gameplay (not actually the case for most games.) As long as she gives proper credit, who the hell cares what she uses?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't give credit, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Then that's a separate issue.

Plagerism is a huge fucking issue.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's Plays are not fucking plagiarism. The legality of Let's Plays are debatable in their own right. They certainly don't own the game footage.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I have yet to see any proof that she's using other people's let's play footage, btw.

I mean... she's showing the exact same game as the let's players, most of the time, cut scenes. So... they expected cut scenes to be different from one copy of the game to another?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
If that's the case, people are being extra ridiculous about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It actually is possible to have cut-scenes differ from game to game, particularly in games where you can customize your character.

But, as I haven't seen her videos, I can't say that this is the case.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

I might be wrong, because I haven't played all the games she's shown, but so far, all the cutscenes I've seen in her videos are from videos where you can't customize your character. Or where you don't see the character itself.

Um... even the article writer points out that most of those are cutscenes that are exactly the same every time you play the game. Which still doesn't prove without any doubt that she DIDN'T play those games.

The most objectionable thing there is the fanart thing, and a quick google search makes it clear that both fanartists have come to an agreement with her.

Except her knowledge of some of the games I know is minimal at best, which tells me she either didn't play them or she didn't even pay attention to them. At best, she had a bias going in and refused to acknowledge her initial thoughts may have been wrong, at worst she stole clips and didn't actually play the games themselves.

I can see where the confirmation bias problem comes from -although I'm pretty sure that most of the people who insist she is misrepresenting the games are actually missing the point of the series- and sure, we can argue about that.

But maybe my problem is that I don't see how we jump from 'confirmation bias' to 'she never played/bought the games and is a horrible con artist', much less to death threats and 'she's the end of gaming as we know it'.

true, absence of evidence and all that, however, the arrangement was we give her money and she buys games to improve the quality of her videos. We then don't see the games or evidence thereof and as pointe out, the quality did not and could not be improved. this leaves room for two conclusion:

1. She bought the games and game systems but did not use them for the purpose she suggested, and in the place where evidence of these games might reasonably be expected to be found, there is uncredited free material provided by someone else who did buy the game in spite of no overfunded kick-starter.
If this case is true, what precisely did we give her money for? I'd like to have legions supporters funding my gaming collection without having to give them even a hint of evidence of the game.

2. She didn't buy the games. She instead headed down to TJ for the weekend. consumed various types of narcotic and hooker, returned home and churned out the same stuff she was doing before she performed Anita Sarkeesians great TJ adventure. I'd like to have legions supporters funding my debauchery without having to give them even a hint of evidence of my VD.

Seeing as how you're so devoted to proving that she's a scammer and telling others about your proof, I'd say that you do, in fact, have a horse in this race.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Less of a horse than her stans who seem to think she's God's gift to feminism and not, you know, someone who scammed Tumblr feminists out of a bunch of money.

A lot of the way she talks about games that I know tells me she's never actually played them, and instead just watched a bunch of footage to get a basic gist.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody like that is in this thread though.

People are just saying "whelp, don't exactly see a reason to crucify her".

"you're obviously a stan"

"you're obviously a stan"

I'm not even a gamer (much less a fan of hers), that's why I said I wouldn't spend 160,000 on GAMES.

I just think it's hilarious people expect her to spend all that money on stuff she promised. She'll spend some of it but not all, come on. She'll never ever be able to spend all of it on stuff like games and consoles, that's been my main point. Not stanning. Sheesh.
