It's alright, I prefer Crisis Core to the original game. Just because I really preferred Zack as a protagonist. But hey, the best thing about the FF7 franchise is that there's a niche for EVERY preference. You like Vincent, there is Dirge of Cerebus, You love the turks, there's Before Crisis. A big Zack and Sephiroth fan, well how about some Crisis Core.

I wouldn't say I prefer Crisis Core but I really enjoyed the game. Probably because the gameplay is much more modern than FFVII's. The funny thing is that I didn't like Zack in the original game, but I thought he was actually pretty cool in Crisis Core. And Angeal was the best mentor ever!

Poor Vincent fans, though. Dirge of Cerberus is the worst game of the Compilation imo. I was so disappointed because I really wanted to like the game since Vincent was one of my favorites in FFVII.

Anon, you hit it on the head. I didn't really know Zack so I didn't see what the big deal was.. until I played Crisis Core (and yes Angeal is definitely eye candy, but then I like the brawny guys)

I never really played Dirge of Cerebus because I wasn't interested but I heard that it wasn't what it was hyped up to be.

To be fair, Zack isn't even really in the original game. He's extremely minor and only has a handful of lines in completely optional flashbacks.

That being said, I don't get how he's likeable in Crisis Core. He's absurdly stupid and naive to the point of being unrealistic, imo. He's a doofus and doesn't seem like a real human being. At least, to me he did, and now I can't even play the original game without despising him a little bit.

DoC does bad things to canon (and outright contradicts it, in places /shrug). I actually don't hate the gameplay, though. Just what it did to certain characters and the world as a whole.

I preferred Crisis Core as well. The only thing I REALLY didn't like about it was the way they characterized Aerith. In the original game she was funny, sassy and a little naughty, but in Crisis Core she was way more pure and innocent (though there were still a couple of moments of sass). I guess you could argue that Zack's disappearance (iirc, she wasn't aware of his death when VII began. Crisis Core kind of implies that she sensed it though) took a toll on her and caused a personality change but...eh....

Crisis Core Aeris is a young girl, after all. People do a lot of growing at that stage of life, no real surprise in that environment and those circumstances she grew into a more streetwise womanhood by original game time.

You know, I like how Aerith bossed Zack around in regards to the building of the flower cart. I think that was very much like Aerith that I knew and loved. But I agree she really should of been fleshed out more (maybe they were so busy fleshing out Sephiroth that they forgot about Aerith?)

NA

Oh god yes. I love FFVII. I adore Crisis Core. Aerith is amazing in FFVII.

In Crisis Core she turns into some henny penny that whines about her fucking wagon in the most annoying fetch quest ever.

Ugh this. I hate Crisis Core for a lot of reasons (Zack being a mentally disabled 8-year-old for one, also, Gensis) but Aeris's characterization really killed me. Seriously, a girl who lives in the slums constantly in fear of capture from the Turks, after a traumatic past and knowing she hears voices... is "afraid of the sky"? I don't think Testuya Nomura really understands the characters at all.
