Earphones. A book. Have something that makes you look busy, even if you're not busy. But most of all, the realization that it's okay to smile and tell someone that you can't talk right now and then behave as if it's perfectly reasonable to request some space, because it IS perfectly reasonable.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 05:37 am (UTC)(link)Make a joke about their hanging around your desk too much. Like, "should I put out some coffee and a chair for you, dude?" Or "you hang out at my desk more than I do, what's up with that?" Something jokey-not-jokey that lets them know you're aware of it and you don't really like it. If you don't like them and they aren't that crazy for you, you've got nothing to lose by being a polite asshole about it.
