Fit a song to a fictional relationship

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Can be any type of relationship -- romantic, friend, family, enemy, whatever.

Also, doesn't matter if, for example, the song is romantic but you're fitting it to a platonic friendship you don't ship, as long as the general subject matter fits the relationship. (Because the overwhelming majority of relationship-songs are romantic).

Like, no1curr if you pick "Hallelujah" or "Sword and Shield" for a friendship even though the song is romantic, because the subject matter of the songs can still fit a non-romantic relationship really well. Or for that matter, "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story for a romance or sibling relationship, because good lovers or siblings are usually also friends.

I once saw a Star Wars fanvid with the song "My Destiny" by Katherine McPhee that was about Luke and Leia's friendship/brother-sister relationship. No it wasn't romantic -- in fact, there were a couple of bits that were Han/Leia, but framed in a "I wouldn't have met him without you" way from Leia to Luke. That stuck with me because it was a pretty unique way of making a fanvid and appreciating a friendship.

King and Lionheart will always be a Thorin/Bilbo song to me.

Same. It's been in way too many fanmixes and fanvids for me to feel differently. It's cute for them, too.

Johan and Nina Liebert from Naoki Urasawa's Monster

"Empathy" by Sneaker Pimps

There's an (okay…ish) AMV of it on youtube with that song.

Psycho-Pass, Ginoza and Masaoka, The Greatest Man I Never Knew. There's a lot of tragedy to Ginoza's refusal to acknowledge Masaoka even while following in his footsteps.

I haven't actually seen Hannibal, but recently I started associating Will/Hannibal (or Hannibal in general really) with "Monsieur" by Thomas Fersen*, with them being in some dom/sub relationship. I have no idea why. perhaps I've picked something up on tumblr or something?

Your mentioning "Sword and Shield" reminded me that I once saw a really good Starsky & Hutch vid to that song. The vid was apparently intended to be slash, but it didn't really come off like that except for the fact that the song is implicitly romantic. I mean, I DID find it via an award for "Best Gen Vid." (The song fit the topic -- Starsky's protectiveness towards Hutch -- really well, FWIW).

Also, "Rolling in the Deep" will always be about Charles/Erik to me. Most of my preferences are inspired by fanvids because I really just don't know enough songs.

Oh, I do have one idea I came up with on my own: "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails reminds me of Spike/Buffy, in a twisted way.

I feel that way, too.

For me it's "This Unavoidable Thing Between Us" by Evermore for House/Wilson, "I Gave You All" by Mumford & Sons for Charles/Erik (Though "Rolling in the deep" is perfect too, and I also really love "Call me" by Shinedown for them), and "Life Less Ordinary" by Carbon Leaf for McKay/Sheppard.

Oh man, same here.

While I'm pretty sure "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers was intended to be about a man whose girlfriend is cheating on him with another man, it also perfectly fits a man whose boyfriend is cheating on him with a woman, making it really well-suited to a lot of slash pairings in which one of the male characters has a canon girlfriend.

Headstrong - Trapt for my rival ships.

And Clarity works too. I love Clarity for my ships.

"Come With Me Now" for Sandor/Sansa. I don't even like that pairing, but that's what it made me think of.

Currently digging Bad Blood by Bastille for an love-turned-hate/hate-turned-love ship of mine. It works for both directions, and it possibly helps that the video is excellent.

Retrograde by James Blake for Martha Jones/Master

(Writing a fic about them and I feel it really fits her. The song is great on its own though)

Explosions by Ellie Goulding for Loki/an OC in a fic i have in my head (really anyone can be put in place...although this song is really fitting for a relationship that is falling apart by the seams and one person is preparing themselves to leave bc it's just not going to end well if they stay)
