I hate it when a show, any type of show (though it usually happens in comedic one) starts out with some fresh ideas but then chucks them out of the window for a romantic plot.

This x10000000. It seems to be the last resort for a lot of shows when the ratings slip or they run out of plot.

This was How I Met Your Mother pretty much every season after season 3.

SO much potential. SO many good ideas. SO many unique and fresh perspectives on things. Exes genuinely becoming good platonic friends? Two people who aren't big on commitment being happy in an atypical relationship? A chauvanistic womanizer genuinely changing over time? A guy making actual lifestyle changes to accompany a major career change? ALL of them went to crap in favor of OOC, boring romantic cliches.

Thank god at least Marshall and Lily were at least semi-good throughout.
