I had a harvest moon game for my DS when I was younger that kept glitching and deleting my progress, so I never progressed very far.

As long as their free and decently made, I'd LOVE to play one of them
(If they're inclusive of gender identities/races/sexualities that's just a plus

If I was given a choice between playing a game without much diversity, but that has good characters, a solid plot, and is overall enjoyable; and a game with a diverse cast, but with poorly developed characters and little to no plot or originality, I'd choose the first. This goes for any medium.

Obviously I'd like more diversity across the board because, y'know, all those minorities exist. But it's pretty obvious when the only selling point for a game/book/comic/whatever is diversity, and when that's what creators were banking on selling their shit for them, rather than any actual work.

I do believe that it's a fad. Either that, or the creators hearts were in the right place and they went about it in the complete wrong way.

Basically: It's not a bad thing to call crap as it is, even if it is decorated with glitter/diversity.

All these games makes me feel like no one learned from "The Arkh Project" fiasco, tbh.

And also, there people should buy and promote this Nintendo game instead - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYi6zEPQEqI

But the problem with the Arkh Project wasn't diversity or social justice, it was that the person in charge of it was Gisei Nashi Ni.

Gisei Nashi Ni was a plus.

Well, her antics certainly provided a lot to point and laugh at, so I agree with you there.

... Please tell me someone is going to localize that soon, because that would get me to automatically buy a 3DS (okay, so I'll probably be getting one for Omega Ruby anyways, but I love games like those a whole lot) for sure.

Looks like it's coming out in about a week for Europe & Australia or in about month for the US.

There's versions of More/Friends of Mineral Town with switched player sprites, basically allowing gay marriage. It seems like it'd be simpler to just go for that, and do similar things with other HM games.

If they make other people happy and you aren't being forced to play them, it sort of does make you look like an asshole.

Why don't you just not play them?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's some weird thing related to gamer cred.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I got that it was more that the OP was upset that these games were using the Harvest Moon tag to promote these games that, while similar to Harvest Moon in the gameplay department, aren't Harvest Moon.

Hm, yeah ok I can see that as being annoying.

So...are there any good ones with good gameplay? I do get a bit sick of having to play as a boy so I can romance the girsl.
