Your friend is being financially responsible, that's all.

Yes, maybe there are ways to raise that money in that time, but for that she would need to invest time she needs for other stuff, like studying or even spending time with friends like you.

We're actually roommates, so we don't have to invest time to spend with each other, it just sort of happens, whether we like it or not. If it ends up being because she's worried about studying, I'll respect that, but from what she's told me, she just has decided she doesn't want to anymore.

Eh, no.
You may be roommates, but you don't HAVE to spend time together at all. She or you could lock her/your door, listen to music/do something else to avoid the other or even go home only to sleep.

And if she doesn't want to go to that (o any other) con anymore? That's ok and it would be ok even if the reason wasn't related with money.

She is not ditching you, so try to not take this all so badly.
