[Person A] dies of substance abuse before their music career begins to stagnate. People are left with only their positive contributions and lament the tragedy of their early death and the promise of what might have been, while ignoring the possibility, or even likelihood of their inevitable decline.

Even if he'd lived and declined, his influenced most likely would have persisted. He was a pioneer.

For reference, see: Led Zeppelin. Man, did they turn to shit...but they're still considered one of the best rock bands because their first few albums had a big enough impact on the genre.
