Not even in the same ballpark. Hendrix contributed to music and in 20 years people will be like Amy Who?

What is your definition for "contributed to music"?

Had an immediate and lasting influence on other artists that persisted for at least a few years is a good start.

Whether that applies to Amy Winehouse is a matter of debate (I personally could see how she made it easier for similar female acts to get into the business) but it's undeniable that Jimi Hendrix invented or codified a lot of what we hear in all sorts of music today -- and his legacy far outsizes hers, if only because he's been dead longer and the ripples of his influence stretch further.

I think her success did significantly change which acts/artists were pushed by record companies in the UK. w/o Amy Winehouse, no Duffy, possibly less of a push for Adele, several others and I doubt Plan B would have gone all retro with his second album. There's also a few I'm forgetting.

[Person A] dies of substance abuse before their music career begins to stagnate. People are left with only their positive contributions and lament the tragedy of their early death and the promise of what might have been, while ignoring the possibility, or even likelihood of their inevitable decline.

Even if he'd lived and declined, his influenced most likely would have persisted. He was a pioneer.

For reference, see: Led Zeppelin. Man, did they turn to shit...but they're still considered one of the best rock bands because their first few albums had a big enough impact on the genre.

We don't know how low he would have sunk, tho.
People can always ruin their legacy given enough time.
