Re: f!s, tell me your favorite vacation stories!

This one time we stopped at a highway restaurant in Arkansas and had the most redneck experience of our life.

Other than that, I loved the return trips we would take with my dad from Oklahoma (where my mom lived; we'd visit her in the summer). He had no qualms about stopping at various places that looked interesting (because we had no certain time to get back home). We went to some cool places in Tennessee (Ruby Falls being one) and would stop at big flea markers (I got two T1-84 calculators for $20!).

Tell me about this most redneck experience. I have been across the USA (drove the I90 all the way to DC) and my experiences were disappointingly non-redneck.

It was some kind of roadside family restaurant. At least, that is the closest descriptor I can think of. No idea why my parents chose that one. I remember there being a lot of wood (it was very dark because everything was made of wood) and that the place was empty. The menu consisted of various fried meat and other southern food.

There were chicken feet in the window, which confused me because that is not traditional Southern food. There were also other southern foods that were fairly common like salted fatback.

We ordered (can't remember what) and mostly kept quiet.

Then they came in. They being a short guy, a taller guy, and the last one we thought was a very tall woman. They looked like whatever your stereotype of a redneck/hillbilly offspring would be. They were loud. Very, very loud. This would not have been a problem until the woman started laughing. I wish I could do the laugh in person for you. Imagine the noise a donkey makes but much deeper (http://youtu.be/gROO7xSTxfY).

That was it for us. We had been on the road for hours and were exhausted. My sisters started laughing so hard they had to go to the bathroom. My dad was just like, "Please get us the bill." We were mostly done with our food by then. So my dad rushed us all out and we drove off into the sunset.

Ahahaha! Delightful. My neighbours used to own donkeys and they'd make some of the most ungodly sounds ever.
