Phobia: a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it. [dictionary.com]

Therefore, by the strictest, literal definition, "homophobia" means, for me, "a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it. Emphasis added.

So when I read "homophobe," I do not think of the "oppressive, closed-minded, violent tendencies" that it is associated with today.

No, when I read it, I envision a poor, absolutely TERRIFIED person, who cannot control their fear, who, upon meeting a "gay" person, will not burst into irrational anger but rather experience feelings of terror and impending doom, rapid heartbeat and breathing, sweaty palms, etc., etc.

The disparity would be the lulz.

I think the issue here is actually that homophobia, the word takes on a completely social meaning that deviates almost entirely from linguistics. That said, doing what you do -- taking a technical glitch and rubbing it into people's faces -- just seems incredibly petty and nonsensical to me.

I know that's not how the word is used. Unfortunately, in my mind, I still think it's funny.

It's same concept as the "I ship X" secrets. It's a self-secret.

Except for, you know, how you did in fact make the view public. F!S is a much bigger audience than all those rating comms combined.

That's great. Now if you'd just take it a step further and keep in mind that other people probably know how the word is used too, then maybe it wouldn't seem so funny anymore, and then you can find something else to laugh about. A whole new horizon of humor awaits. Exciting.

See, that makes so much sense to me, because I hate all "I ship X" secrets.
