Really? See, everyone I've talked to thought the story was awesome. But I can see where the story would be boring. It dragged in several places and only towards the end did it sort of pick up the pace.

But I really, really hated the battle system. It was easier to just hack and slash your way through than to try and use anything else. Or maybe it's just me failing at using the damn Artes system. XP

Legretta needs more fans.

My main gripe with the story is that...there isn't much of a story being told. After Akzeriuth, the main events seemed to consist of "Luke and co. go to this area, fix the problem, then rinse and repeat with a different area", which got to feel like Groundhog Day after a while.

...but then again, I still have a long way to go before I finish the game.

You hit the nail on the head there. That's what it is for a bit. It's why it took me so long to finish the game. (Plus I hate the bloody world map. X_x) But it DOES pick up, I swear.

I want to kill the world map with fire. :/ I often stopped playing TotA for MONTHS because I'd be on the world map and hate it so much I never wanted to go back.

I've been a fan of the Tales series for a while, and I'm pretty confident in saying that if you've played one you've played 'em all (as far as gameplay is concerned). It's a solid system that doesn't even nearly approach the button-mashness of something like Kingdom Hearts, and there is a certain amount of technique involved - but the thing is that you don't really need to use it (on the regular difficulty, at least), as a few levels and skill-spamming work fine, too (unless you're a grade-whore like I am).

In short: Good but not as good as Star Ocean 3 *fangirl*. If it's not your bag, then whatever. :3

Plaaaay eeet. The plot is kind of... strange sometimes, and I won't spoil it, but there is the world's most WTF plot twist about 2/3 of the way through the game.

They really did a good job differentiating characters from each other, and it's a really different experience controlling all the separate characters in battle. There are ways to abuse the game, yeah, but for the highest difficulty levels you need to abuse it because the game just starts beating the crap out of you. If you like optional dungeons, well, this game has five, three of which are post-game monstrosities. I've spent 60-70 hours in a single playthrough on the optional dungeons alone, I am ashamed to admit.

I honestly think it's the best action/RPG I've ever played, and no other RPG out there comes close when it comes to the kind of punishing challenges you can inflict upon yourself in that game. (the Battle Trophies are like crack, I swear. And you haven't seen WTF l33t skills until you've seen videos on YouTube of some Japanese guy manually controlling multiple characters by switching rapidly between them to juggle uber-bosses.

...but I don't want to make it sound too brutal I'm just a masochistic gamer. There are four difficulty levels, after all.

Okay, I'm done fangirling/plugging now. I just love SO3 like crazy.
