I am intrigued. What series is this?

Oniisama E (http://chibkyo.livejournal.com/112148.html), which was renamed by its only fansub group as Brother, Dear Brother. A tale of lesbian crushes, hidden identities, mysterious illnesses, school politics, drugs, a twisted D/s relationship, lots of crazy, and some really bad yet stylish basketball. It's fabulous. The closest thing I can relate it to is Utena, which used a lot of the elements in Oniisama E in a fantasy setting.

I read the manga a long time ago, but didn't recognize the characters! I'm watching the first episode now. :D

I definitely am! I love the dramatic pans of the characters already.

And when the boyish character swept her off the bus and the camera panned around at least a half dozen times? FANTASTIC.

One of the things I love about the series is that it pairs 70's character designs with a 90's budget and twenty more years of animation savvy. It's what I wish Ace wo Nerae! had looked like.

What's really sad is that some of the series reminds me of my days in an all-girl school. Sure, the drama wasn't filled with as much flair, and we didn't have handsome guys to save us from the gossiping, rumor-mongering bitches, but it's crazy how it shares some similarities to my experiences.
